Let's Check your abilities.
PC VIRUSES, AWARENESS AND CAUTION
[1] WHAT IS VIRUS
Virus is a little program that its activity can destruct/destroy some files and a computer system. If you don't open this program, it still inactive and could not destroy anything.
[2] VIRUS PROGRAM COMES(ATTACHED) WITH VIRUS EMAIL: The virus program brought to you by an email as attachment from spammer or known as cracker. It has a server itself (virus server). Virus attachment cannot go into another email then become attachment the another email, such as an email was sent by user (netter), members of group, moderator etc. It must be brought to you by email virus itself, that's why, we called them VIRUS EMAIL or SPAM.
[3] HOW VIRUS EMAILS ARE SENT: VIRUS EMAIL would be sent by any email address of any account, because some crackers always search and catch email address in boxes FROM, TO: and CC: of sending email including from user's address book. They search to found out then copy or cracked some addresses, even some sending email included its subject line from mailbox of users' anywhere. So that why the virus email looks like was sent by our friend, our member, our moderator etc..... may be able even by email address yourself.
[4] HOW TO INDENTIFY VIRUS EMAIL AND ITS ATTACHEMENT: (a) it has a SMAILL SIZE ( 181-285 KB ) (b) it has EXTENTION FILE NAME (.xxx) extension file name such as below (then don't open it): *.scr *.pif *.zip *.HQX *.MQX *.mim *.bat *.exe *.com *.txt *.doc *.clp *.lhz *.rhz and more other new extension name files, (c) and occasionally it appears as the compressed file... *.zip file. (d) Also by a fake name like this HotMovie.MPEG_ _________ scr. actually that file is virus file with extension .scr Beware, safe to be safe is only open *.JPG file.
[5] IDENTIFY BY SUBJECT By having experience you could identify an email virus from their "SUBJECT" or TITLE. Most of them contains an amazing statement or unusual word, such as the following examples (don't open it): Hi :) Pictures. Weah ^_^ :)) Hokki=) ello!=)) Hello -:)) Hey, dude, it's me ^_^ access Mpeg Re:your text Re:Text message Re:Msg reply Re:Is that your document? Re:Hot Movie(MPEG) Re:Information. .. Re;Important info Re:This is your photos!:) and more, and more...and in this year virus type of warm was able to copy your sending email included subject line, but the copied email consist of virus attachment. When you received emails with that subject matter, delete it straight away. Don't open it any more. Otherwise the virus sender will see that your account is still active.
20 Common Mistakes To Avoid By Any Internet Surfers.
Novice Internet surfers are eager to explore World Wide Web known for researching, shopping, communicating and enjoying the media. And then there are evil waiting to trap these greenhorns and make money out of it. Identity theft, Email Spamming, Chat Room etc are some of the common traps people fall in to. But that doesn't mean one should avoid using Internet, as today most of us keep in touch with friends, family, and locate cool places or news by Internet. One only needs to be careful while surfing Internet in order to save time and to remain at the safer side. If you are someone wanting to start your web journey then make a note of these common mistakes to avoid when surfing online.
Thinks dont know about facebook..
Anyone using Facebook probably has a hard time keeping track of all the changes and updates to the service. Even those of us who use Facebook for business are hard-pressed to keep up. In the last few weeks, Ie learned more about Facebook through trial and error (and my Twitterstream) than I ever have from Facebook communications. Here are a few things Ie learned that you may not know:
1. You can get a business account.
Not interested in having a Facebook account of your own (a personal profile)? Facebook has finally given individuals who only want to use the site to administer Pages and their ad campaigns the ability to create a non-public Facebook account without an attached profile. A Facebook business account gives you access to the Pages and the Social Ads you manage.
To create your business account:
2. You can categorize a Facebook Page in a status update.
By using mentions in your Facebook status updates, you can tag people who will then be notified that your mentioned them. You can also address an mention to a Facebook Page, Group or Event from your status updates. Just type in the symbol followed by the first few letters of the Page, Group or Event you'd like to mention.
3. You only need 25 fans to get a custom username.
There was a time when you needed 100 fans or liker on your Page before Facebook allowed you to get a vanity URL or Facebook username. Now you just need 25, which shouldn't be hard to get.
4. If you restrict access to your Facebook Page, your Page ceases to be public.
You can restrict your Facebook Page to a certain geographic location or certain age group, but if you do so, you no longer will have a publicly-viewable Facebook Page. Even if you have a Facebook vanity URL, the page will default to the Facebook homepage if a Facebook member does not fit into the criteria of your restrictions. If the visitor is not a Facebook member, they cannot see your Page at all, because Facebook has no way to verify if they fit your criteria or not.
5. Neither Pages nor Groups have limits to people who can like or join.
There was a time when Facebook limited the number of fans or members you can have on your Page or in your Group, but now the sky seems to be the limit. Ive seen Pages with over a million fans such as NPs Page. You still can only have 5,000 friends on your personal profile, though.
6. You cannot send a direct message to the fans of your Page.
You can speak to all of your fans via your Page Wall, but you cannot broadcast a message into their Facebook inboxes. Instead, you can send your fans an Update. Updates only show up in a subsection of Facebook’s Messages page. You have to know it is there, and click the link on the left side of your screen to access the Updates. Note that Updates do not get sent to people’s actual email accounts. If you have a Facebook Group, you can directly message your group members; this message is sent to both their main Facebook Messages inbox and their personal email accounts.
7. You can add Google Analytics to your Facebook Page.
If you have a custom Facebook Page and are hosting some FBML code on your own server, you can use this technical workaround to add Google Analytics to your Facebook Page. The programmers who created this also provide a Google Analytics link generator to help you create an image (IMG) tag for each Facebook Page you’d like to track.
8. You can see how much website traffic your Facebook social ad generated.
Have you created a Facebook social ad that leads people away from the Facebook site? Facebook but now offers a conversion tracking system. You might have already seen a mention of this feature appear on your Ads Manager page; it will measure what happens on your website once a Facebook user sees or clicks on your ad. You can access Facebooks guide for this new feature which is currently in beta.
USB Stick Virus causes Windows XP Problems (RECYCLER.exe)
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=232457&messageID=2396828
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
in the right side of the window, there must be a entry called: checked value
right click on it n and select ' value'....
if its value is set for ' 0' than delete it n set the value as ' 1'..
close the regedit window.....
now the problem must be gone......this worked in my system n now i can
unhide the hidden files......
This Registry Fix makes me capable to show hidden files in Windows explorer again.
iv) when i unplug the USB stick and Plug it in again, Windows just wouldn`t give me the menu with the Options what i want to do anymore.
As I said, I fixed the problem to show hidden Files. So there are two hidden Files on my USB Stick:
a) autorun
b) RECYCLER
autorun looks like this:
[AutoRun]
open=RECYCLER.exe
shellexecute=RECYCLER.exe
shell\Auto\command=RECYCLER.exe
What the RECYCLER.exe does, i cant really tell. I tried to figure out by disassembling it with a tool from Haven Tools called PE Explorer:
http://www.heaventools.com/
But my Computer Skills seem to be not sufficient enough to analyse it properly. Can anybody help me?
Recycler.exe virus will attack your drives, both hard disk and removable. The origin name of recycler virus is W32.Lecna.H, a worm that spreads by copying itself to all of your currently active drives. After infecting your computer, it will download potentially malicious code if you connected to the internet. Some anti virus just passed recycler, so you must delete it manually. Here is the method:
1. Open Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del.
2. Select Processes tab.
3. Search and find CTFMON.EXE. Select it and click End Task.
4. Run Search tool. Search CTFMON.EXE file and delete it. Commonly it is located in Startup menu.
5. Open Run tool. Type cmd. The Command application will open.
6. Type cd\.
7. Type attrib –r –s –h +a *.inf.
8. Type del autorun.inf.
9. Type attrib –r –s –h +a recycled.
10. Type cd recycled.
11. Type del *.* and confirm the deletion.
12. Type cd\.
13. Type rmdir recycled.
14. Now the recycler virus is removed from your system drive. What you need to do next is repeating step 6-13 and apply it to other drives.
15. Upgrade your anti virus definition and re-scan your computer.
If the *.inf doesn’t exist probably:
1. The virus that is attacking your computer is not Recycler.
2. The virus has been deleted. In some cases I found that by deleting the CTFMON.EXE file the virus is gone (the computer is using AVG).
In XP, the recycle bin is a hidden system folder in the root of each drive
called RECYCLER.
If you open a command prompt in Windows and cd to the root of each drive,
type:
attrib -s -h -r recycler
This will cause that folder to be visible to dir in the command prompt, and
it will show up in Explorer.
Then, cd to recycler and type:
attrib -r -s -h *.*
This will cause any files in that folder that may have been hidden from the
command prompt and Windows to reappear.
You can then go in and delete files as you normally would.

Top 14 websites for students
If you want to a see a blank look on students’ faces, ask them about the Dewey Decimal library classification system. For better or for worse, the Internet has become the alternative to a library card catalog for browsing and locating resources. But how do you navigate that system, and how can you trust what you read on the web?
"Frankly, this is my main concern, along with stumbling onto inappropriate material," admits Bonnie Marks, a mother of two. "Just because someone publishes something on their home page, it doesn't make it gospel—many kids don't know this."
Learning how to find the information you need on the Internet, and how to evaluate and appropriately use the information you find, can be challenging for both parents and students. The following is a look at some of the most comprehensive—and reliable—educational websites a student can bookmark and use to research school projects and homework assignments.
Web literacy and general reference
Information Literacy
All students—no matter what age—need help navigating and evaluating the ever-growing store of information available on the web. This University of Idaho site is an information literacy primer that will quickly turn any half-hearted or random searcher into a savvy Internet detective. It guides students through a series of modules that teach them how to distinguish different kinds of information on the Internet, search for and select research topics, search databases and other collections, locate and cite sources, and evaluate the sources they find.
ipl2
A merger of the Internet Public Library and the Librarians' Internet Index, this site is a comprehensive source of "information you can trust." Thousands of volunteer library and information science professionals created and maintain the site’s reference collections—sets of links to websites on U. S. presidents, author biographies, museums, research and writing, literary criticism, and many more topics. The Ask an ipl2 Librarian reference service, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, provides individualized help finding authoritative, free online sources for specific topics.
Refdesk
Checking facts in Internet sources is one of the key ways to evaluate them, and Refdesk.com, which stands for "reference desk," simplifies this essential step. Since 1995, Refdesk.com has served as a one-click springboard to many of the web's top dictionaries, encyclopedias, calculators, atlases, news headlines, and search engines. The site also includes a handy Homework Helper section (under the Help and Advice column on the lower right of the page) that provides help in all subjects to students in every grade.
Fact Monster
For younger students who are not quite ready to navigate Refdesk, Fact Monster from Information Please is the tool to use. The Reference Desk on this site features a layout that is designed for easy fact-finding and includes timelines and an almanac, atlas, dictionary, and encyclopedia, as well as a Homework Center. Students can also search by visually identified topics or by typing in keywords. Check out fun features such as Biographies of the Presidents, the Geography Hall of Fame, and the Tallest Buildings Slideshow.
Microsoft Download Center
Consider the Microsoft Download Center your ultimate file repository. It links to tens of thousands of downloadable free or shareware programs. These include updates, utilities, applications, and extras for Windows, Macintosh, and other platforms; Internet tools; security essentials; developer resources; mobile devices; and, of course, computer games. You can search for what you need alphabetically, by product family, by download category, or by typing in a keyword. The Microsoft Worldwide Downloads site enables you to download files in more than 80 different languages.
Microsoft Student Experience
This site is the cool place for the technology leaders of the future. It offers student resources, helps students stay connected through its newsletters and technology clubs, and provides a career portal and Students-to-Business program. The links to scholarship competitions and to TechStudent—a site for website builders, designers, and software developers in training—encourage creativity and skill development. The Student Experience site also links to DreamSpark, which enables students not only to download professional software such as Microsoft Visual Studio, SQL Server, Visual C++ Express Edition, and Robotics Developer Studio for free but provides free training for using these tools as well.

You can type and paste up to 10,000 characters (about 1,800 words) into the search window and then select the desired language. Or cut and paste a web URL to convert the entire site.
Project Gutenberg
As every parent and student knows, books that are required reading are not always available, or if they are, students may misplace their copy before they finish the assignment. Project Gutenberg to the rescue. This site enables you to download more than 30,000 free electronic books to read on your computer, iPhone, Kindle, Sony Reader, or other portable device in a variety of file formats. You can search by title and author or browse their collection of classic works, many of which are available in audio editions as well.

- Always blacklist the spammers you come across in mails without just deleting the spam mails.
- Don't ever click on the Close window without logging of your account especially if you are at cybercaf for accessing Internet then you are more at risk.
- Always have a back up for your emails just as how you keep a hard copy of your important docs and other things.
- Avoid believing in those brainless €œMicrosoft Is Sharing Its Fortune kind of mail, they are just spammers requiring your details to trouble you more.
- Always have a habit of not clicking on phishing email, the goal of phisher is to fool you for entering your details into something that actually appears to be safe and secure, but in reality is just a fake site set up by the scammer.
- Avoid giving your full name, home address, phone number, Social Security number, passwords, names of family members, credit card numbers online. Best is to remain anonymous and enjoy surfing
- Never forget to scan the attachment you receive in your mail box. Virus attacks are mostly through such attachments.
- Social networking sites are something we cannot avoid these days, yet it is always secure to follow known person on Twitter or to add on Facebook. Dont forget to do security check if you tend to add unknown person.

The Ask an ipl2 Librarian reference service, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, provides individualized help finding authoritative, free online sources for specific topics.

3. Save the file
4. Re-open the file in NotepadNotepad displays seemingly-random Chinese characters, or boxes if your default Notepad font doesn't support those characters.
It's not an Easter egg (even though it seems like a funny one), and as it turns out, Notepad writes the file correctly.
It's only when Notepad reads the file back in that it seems to lose its mind.
